Scripture Text
(John 14:6)
INTRODUCTION:
Two of the most remarkable statements by Jesus
are found in this one verse.. John 14:6 (NKJV) Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through Me.These
statements were made in a discussion with His disciples as He prepared them for
His impending death - John 14:1-4. Which
prompted questions by Thomas and Philip - John 14:5,7-9 In making such statements, Jesus claims
to be three things: "The Way, The
Truth, And The Life." In this study we
will take a closer look at Jesus' statement, where we first observe that Jesus is... THE
WAY!
A. JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GOD... ( JOHN 14:6)
1. Jesus clearly claims to be the only way
to God, not a way.
This
may sound politically incorrect, but Jesus states it nonetheless. There are
many religions who claim to know the way to God, but they all stress works. What works are stressed? And
you never know if you have done enough good to make it to Heaven where God
lives. Romans 3:23 states for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This statement rules out
works.
2.
As Peter would later proclaim, there is no salvation but through Jesus in Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name
under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." The way to
God is through a relationship with Jesus, not in a religion of good works. We
have faith in Jesus Christ not a religion.
B.
HOW JESUS IS THE WAY TO THE FATHER...
1. By revealing Him, stressed in the
gospel of John - John 14:7-9 (NKJV) 7 "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also;
and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." 8 Philip said
to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." 9
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have
not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you
say, 'Show us the Father'?
John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The
only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
John 12:44-45 44 Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who
believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 And he
who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.
2. By opening the new way to Him, emphasized
in the book of Hebrews. (He 10:19-20)
Hebrews 10:19-20 (NKJV) 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the
blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for
us, through the veil, that is, His flesh.
3. By serving as our high priest, another
theme in Hebrews - Hebrews 2:17-18 (NKJV)
17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV) 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

4. Jesus now intercedes for us.
a. As our Advocate –1 John 2:1 (HCSB) My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may
not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus
Christ the righteous One.
b. At the right hand of God - Romans 8:34 (HCSB)
34 Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.
34 Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.
c. The one (and only) Mediator (negotiator) between
God and man - 1 Timothy 2:5 (NKJV) For there is one God and one
Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.
There must be a Mediator for you to
appear before God. Not worthy in your own merits.
d. Jesus ever lives to intercede for us! He constantly
pleads our case before the Father. - Hebrews 7:24-25 (NKJV) 24 But He, because He
continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He
is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since
He always lives to make intercession for them.
No other religion has a Savior that can
guarantee the way to God and Heaven!
Conclusion: By virtue of His
life on earth, His death on the cross, and now His service in heaven for us who
believe in Him, Jesus is truly the only way to God
Invitation: As was just stated
from scripture, there is only one way to God and Jesus is that way. You must
confess your sins to Jesus and ask Him to forgive you of those sins and then
you must invite Him into your heart to take charge of your life. This is
the only way to God and eternal life in Heaven with Him.
