Things To Be Thankful For

Intro: We Christians have so much for which to be thankful for not just one day a year but each and every day we live. God has given us so many blessings both spiritual and material! I have listed some spiritual blessings because they are eternal. Be thankful that;

1. We are children of God. (John 1:12) But as many as received Him (Jesus) to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. This verse speaks of Jesus granting the right or giving the authority to become a child of God. No one can attain this new birth by his or her own power, merit, or ability. Only Jesus can grant it. When we place our faith and trust in Jesus’ death on the cross as payment for our sins, we ask for His forgiveness of our sins and we receive Him into our lives, Jesus gives us the authority and power to become children of the living God. Galatians 3:26 (NLT) For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. We owe thanks to Jesus because He gave us the right to become children of God.

2. We are righteous in God’s eyes. (2 Corinthians 5:21) For God made Jesus who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. This is one of the great verses proclaiming the unbelievable love of God. Christ bore the penalty and the punishment for our sins. God made Jesus, who was completely innocent and perfect; to become sin for us so He could take away our sin. Once someone comes to Jesus and confesses their sin and asks for forgiveness and salvation, they become righteous in God’s eyes and they find a peace and satisfaction of soul which is everlasting, and that person will never cease to be righteousness. Nothing can ever change our standing with the Father. Think about that, Christians will never cease to be righteous in God's eyes. Jesus said in; John 6:47 (NKJV) Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. Jesus makes it plain that the believer has been made righteous and has eternal life, starting the moment someone believes in Him as their Savior. The verb “believes” in these verses means “he who continues to believe.” We do not believe merely once; we keep on believing in and trusting Jesus. We owe thanks to Jesus for making us righteous in God’s eyes.

3. We are redeemed from the curse of the law. Galatians 3:10-1410  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." 11  But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith." 12  Yet the law is not of faith, but "the man who does them shall live by them." 13  Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), 14  that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Every person is guilty of violating the 10 commandments and under the curse of God's law until they are saved. Jesus took our curse upon Himself on the cross. To be hanged on a tree signified to the Jews that a person had been cursed. Christ willingly allowed himself to become cursed for all humanity, and so He endured the Crucifixion for us. At the cross, the curse of the law was transferred from sinful humanity to the sinless Son of God. Christ became our representative and took on himself the penalty of our sin for breaking God's laws and then He gave us His righteousness so we could be accepted by the Father. We are no longer under God's curse for breaking His law. Thanks be to Jesus for redeeming us (saving us) from the curse of the law.

4. We have victory over the world. 1 John 5:4 (NKJV) For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. It is faith (trust) in Jesus that saves us, and it is faith in Jesus that keeps us. We (walk) live our lives by faith. We are children of God by faith in Jesus Christ, and faith is the only way in which you and I will be able to overcome this world around us. The power of Christ, given to believers through the Holy Spirit, gives us the victory over the world, the flesh, the devil, death, and sin. We need to live our lives in the assurance that we belong to God and we are under His care and we have victory over the world.

Conclusion: These are just some of the things God has given us to be thankful for. As you read the word of God daily you will find many more things for which to be thankful because the bible says Ephesians 1:3 Thanks be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. May we be counted among those who are thankful for every good and perfect gift that comes from God our Father.

Invitation: Do you know for sure you are a child of God? Can you say that without a doubt? If not now would be a good time to confess your sins to Jesus and ask Him to forgive you and invite Him to take charge of your life, then you too will be thankful that you now have victory over the world, the devil, death, and sin. The choice is yours!

VETERANS DAY

Friday the 11th will be Veterans Day. It is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed every year on November 11. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all living U.S. military veterans.

I. VETERANS ARE COMMITTED TO A CAUSE: Our veterans have demonstrated a heart of courage committed to a cause:  The cause of freedom from oppression, and love of country. They are committed to the cause of Constitutional self-government. a. Jesus Christ was committed to a cause! Luke 19:10  For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” He wanted to save the world through the cross, not save Himself from the cross.  Just as our veterans are committed to a cause, so Jesus was committed to a greater cause of saving the lost! Let me ask you a question: Are you committed to His cause of reaching others? For what cause would you risk your life? For what purpose would you dedicate your energies…your finances, your time? We honor our veterans. But we worship our Commander in Chief, Jesus. We owe our liberty to our veterans. But we owe our eternal lives to Jesus Christ. We salute the flag! But we kneel before the Christ of the cross.

II. VETERANS ARE DEDICATED TO CHANGING THE COURSE OF THE FUTURE: What would have happened if it hadn’t been for the dedication of our veterans? Yes, we still live in a corrupt and twisted society, but who knows what powers might have dominated, if it were not for the commitment of our veterans?  Truly, in each war, they changed the course of the future.  a. Jesus was dedicated to changing the course of mankind’s future. Colossians 2:13-14 (NKJV) 13  And you, being dead in your trespasses and sins of the flesh, God has made alive together with Jesus, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14  having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Because of Jesus' sacrifice for us, the course of mankind's future was changed. The penalty of sin and its power over believers was miraculously destroyed by Christ on the cross. Through faith in Christ, believers are forgiven and found not guilty, before God, their judge. Because of Jesus’ dedication to save us, the course of our future has been changed from hell to Heaven. We owe all we are to Him! What are you dedicated to do for the future of this country …For this church… …for your own family? Our nation’s history may have been much different…Without the contribution of our veterans. Our lives would have been much different without the change Jesus made in our lives through His death on the cross as payment for our sins.

III. VETERANS ARE WILLING TO PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE: Our veterans are dedicated and willing to pay the price for freedoms sake: They give up the safety and peacefulness of being at home. They leave their friends and families. Some surrendered their personal plans for education and career. Some suffered the loss of sight! Some forfeited their limbs! Many were terribly physically disabled. Many actually paid the price of their very lives. Our veterans pay the ultimate price for our freedom.  a. Jesus was willing to pay the ultimate price of all He had for us. Luke 23:44-46 (NKJV) 44  Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45  Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46  And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.' " Having said this, He breathed His last. Jesus became our substitute. No greater price has ever been paid than that Jesus paid for us! Jesus paid in His blood for the salvation of those who couldn’t have cared less. Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Jesus didn’t shrink back at the point of death. Jesus gave His all for us that we might be saved. Countless young men and women, in the bloom of youth, have been willing to pay the price, however great, in order to protect and change the course of the future of this nation.  As they pay the ultimate price for our freedom, so Jesus paid the ultimate price for our spiritual freedom. He has saved us from the penalty and power of sin. And as a result, we have become an eternal monument to the riches of His mercy and over abundant grace. He paid the ultimate price, His life and precious blood. What price are you willing to pay, to maintain our spiritual freedom? Will you vote? What price are you willing to pay to fulfill the purpose Christ has called you? What prices are you willing to pay to rid yourself of all that robs you of God’s will for your life?

CONCLUSION: Veterans’ Day is an opportunity for us to thank those who love us enough to give their lives in service for us. There are monuments that stand today in honor and memory of our brave soldiers. This Tuesday is election day. More than half of the Christians in America don't vote. It is our sacred duty to vote for the candidate who stands for the things that the bible says are right. Know what the candidates stand for and vote the bible. Some veterans and Jesus died to give us freedom to vote. If we fail to exercise our right to vote we will soon lose that right and our freedoms. The cross is a permanent monument that speaks of freedom to all who will hear. We should thank our veterans for their contribution toward our freedom and thank Jesus daily for paying the ultimate price to redeem not only our souls, but also our bodies.

Invitation: Have you taken advantage of Jesus’ shed blood as payment for your sins? If not, confess your sins to Christ, ask Jesus right now to forgive you and save your soul for Heaven.

The One Needful Thing!

Scripture Text

Luke 10:38-42

Intro: Most Christians think they have to be busy doing things for the Lord to please Him. The more they do the more pleased Jesus is with them. But the verses before us today give us enlightenment as to what Jesus considers the most needful thing in a person's life.

I. Martha welcomed Jesus into her house! Luke 10:38 (NKJV)
38  Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. We need to be like Martha in this respect. May we welcome Him into our life as we start each day! Jesus stands at the door and knocks in; Revelation 3:20 (NKJV) Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. He won't force His way in, He must be invited in.

II. Martha's focus. Luke 10:40 (NKJV) But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." She was distracted by much serving. She complained about no help! Many Christians are stressed out from to much serving. They feel they have to keep busy for Him to please Him. Jesus let Martha know the truth about her misplaced priorities. Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. Jesus was not rebuking her for wanting to serve Him, but she was to sit at His feet and listen to Him first and then serve. You can be so busy for Jesus and others that you don’t take time to be in His presence and listen to Him. If you don't take time to listen to Jesus there will be no joy in your serving. You will be serving in your own strength. Martha's eyes were on her sister. Some today try to serve that way. She was worried and troubled about many things, not just serving. How many do you know that are serving God and it is torture for them and they make it known to everyone? They complain about this and that. Miserable Christians they are! Jesus doesn’t want you to stress out over serving Him and others so you need to stop, sit at Jesus' feet and listen to Him. Then we will be prepared to serve Him in His way and strength instead of our own which really profits nothing.

III. Mary's focus. Luke 10:39 (NKJV) And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. We need to be like Mary also. She knew what was important and needful. Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." Jesus said one thing is needful, necessary, worth being concerned over and that's Listening to Him. Mary had chosen the good part and it would not be taken from her. When you take time out of your daily schedule to sit at Jesus’ feet you have chosen that good part and you will be blessed. Godly Christians are to pray for understanding and knowledge and listen to hear the Holy Spirit speaking through God’s word. God has given us His word to strengthen, comfort, and encourage us. His word gives us guidance and direction in life. From Jesus’ word we obtain wisdom that we need to serve Him and live successfully for Him in this world. God blesses and favors those who read His word. Our relationship with Jesus is made ever more intimate as we sit at Jesus feet and hear His words. Then we apply them in our service for Him and in our every day life. In God’s word we will find His promises to us and we will find the path for a victorious lifestyle. May all Christians see a need to read God’s word and listen for the Holy Spirit's leading. How many problems of the church and our lives could we avoid if we all read this word daily and lived each day by it?Jesus has a plan for our lives but if we don’t take time to sit at His feet we won’t find it!Jesus wrote the instruction book for life! Have you ever tried to put something you bought together without reading the instructions first? What usually happens besides not being able to finish the job? A great loss of time! Jesus alone knows the most successful path in life. In John 15:5 Jesus said “without Him we could do nothing.” Jesus says in verse 42 that There is Nothing more needful in your life than God’s word. Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him-[the devil], saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.' "

Conclusion: When you choose God’s word as the most needful thing in your life, it will not be taken from you and you will have great success and you can serve God in His power!

INVITATION: God’s word says He wants all mankind to come to the knowledge of the truth. Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior? If not confess your sins to Jesus and ask Him to forgive you. Invite Him into your life to take charge of you. Is Jesus saying to you that you are troubled and worried about many things? Do you feel stressed out over things? Then take time daily to read His word!

What Kind of God?

Romans 12:9-11 (NKJV) 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate [loving] to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

It seems that since God made humans in His own image, humans have been “returning the favor” by making God into an image that best represents their own personality. Have you ever noticed that mean people have a mean god, while judgmental people have a judgmental god, lazy people have a carefree god, just anything goes? There are many kinds of people who justify their character and actions by creating God into their image, thereby nullifying the truth of the scriptures. Scripture says God is working to conform us to Christ’s image, but we are busy conforming Christ to our image.

When people meet you today, what kind of god will you represent? Will they see a loving and merciful God, patient and full of grace? Will they see a God who is willing to serve rather than be served? Remember our God in Christ washed human feet. I don’t know of any other gods that would do that. Many times it is our own unyielding personalities that become hindrances for the world to see Jesus who lives in us. They can’t see Him for us, they just see a non-conformed personality.

The bible teaches that we are to be Christ like.

Ephesians 5:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

The best way to behave like a Christian is to yield ourselves to what Scripture teaches us about Christ. When we become followers of Jesus, and His Spirit takes up residence in us, we have access to His divine nature. 2 Peter 1:3-4 (NKJV)
3 His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Conforming to His image will manifest itself as described in the scriptures we began with.

We will find ourselves on a mission, diligent, persistent about the Father’s business as we serve the Lord every day, where ever we are and whatever we are doing.

The bible says in; 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NKJV)
20 We are ambassadors [representatives] for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

We are to show people the correct image of a loving, merciful, gracious and forgiving God. Let others see Jesus in you!

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me represent You well to everyone I meet. May others know that You are real by my actions and attitude. Teach me how to be more like You. Please empower me to love the unlovable, be kind to the unfriendly; and be merciful and gracious to those who may not know You. And above all, help me speak the truth in love. In Your name!

Invitation: What kind of God do you represent in your everyday words and actions, attitude? IfDo you need salvation? Do others see Jesus in you? Do you need to repent of your actions?

Peace In the Midst of the Storm

Scripture Text

Mark 4: 35-41

Intro: There is so much we can learn from this story that Mark gives us in these verses for today. This story should inspire and encourage each of us to put our trust in Jesus and His word no matter what we are facing in life. He is truly worthy of our complete trust in Him to take care of every situation and circumstance.

1 Jesus seeks rest after a tiring day. Mark 4:35-36 (NKJV) 35  On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."36  Now when they had left the multitude, they  took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. We All get fatigued in life and need rest! Even though Jesus was all God, He was also all man and He got tired.

a. Jesus also became fatigued! It was evening of the same day when Jesus sought rest. He had been teaching all day to a multitude of people. The crowd had been so massive and pressing that they had forced Him into a boat and from there He taught them. When evening had come Jesus took the initiative and gives the command to His 12 disciples to cross over to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Along the way, the disciples would be taught an unforgettable lesson about his power.

b. Because Jesus was so fatigued, He went as He was—tired and give out from ministering. Even though He was all God, He was also all man.

c. Other ships went also. The people wanted to be with Jesus wherever He went.

II. Jesus is with us through whatever storm we face. Mark 4:37-38 (NKJV) 37  And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38  But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"

a. The storm was so great that the Ship began to be filled with water. We have all experienced some storms in our lives or we are going thru one now. We may feel like we are going under from the immensity of our storm.

b. While this great storm was going on Jesus slept in the midst of it. The disciples feared lest they perish. Have you ever felt that Jesus has turned a blind eye to your situation? That the door to Heaven is closed! We pray and nothing seems to happen!Just when we think it's too late, Jesus shows up right on time. c. Jesus can bring peace in your storm. [Mark 4:39] (NKJV) Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Jesus can still the storm in your life and bring peace to your soul if you call on Him and trust Him. It does not matter what the storm or trial is or how terrifying it may be—Jesus is able to deliver and bring about the most assuring calm. Few trials could be as terrifying as being caught in a life-threatening storm at sea. In this experience God has demonstrated His wonderful care and power to deliver the believer through all the storms of life.

d. Jesus cares for you more than you could ever know. [1 Peter 5:6-7] 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Jesus has the power to control every situation. Whatever we are facing or will face in the future Jesus is well able to help us through it as He brings calm and peace to our souls. He invites us to ask, seek, and knock. They had Jesus in the boat but they still had to ask Him to intervene. We can bring every situation to Him in prayer. If Jesus is in your boat (life) it will not sink. Jesus should be our Savior, to whom we turn with all our needs and fears, knowing that he does care and will help. Last part of Hebrews 13:5 For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

III. Jesus says peace and calmness comes through faith. [Mark 4:40-41] 40 But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" They wanted him to do something; he wanted them to trust him, to use their faith! Despite all that the disciples had seen and heard thus far, and despite their belief in Jesus as the Messiah, they still had not grasped that Jesus was himself God, given God’s power and authority over all of creation.

a. Faith comes through God's word! Faith means trust. Jesus asked them “where is your faith”? Romans 10:17 says “Faith-trust comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” When we read God’s word over our situation it is sure to bring the faith and peace we need in every situation we have to face. By acting on God's Word and not merely reacting to the situation, we'll be able to manage our emotions instead of allowing them to manage us. Confess the Word of God over your situation. Even though what you confess may be the opposite of how you feel, keep doing it. God's word is greater than your feelings. God's Word has inherent power in it to change our feelings, bring comfort to us, and quiet our distraught emotions and change situations. The word is living and powerful; sharper than a two edged sword. (Heb. 4:12) Through the word we are born again. Then the word of God continues to work faith in us; and through the word faith is activated. Read the word of God over your situation. Keep yourself occupied with the word, and give it time. The word has divine life in it; memorize it and carry it in your inmost being, and it will work life in you. It will work in you a faith strong and able for anything as you continue in it. It will give you calm and peace beyond human understanding in the midst of the storm!

Invitation: Is Jesus in your boat (life)? Has He saved you from the penalty of sin and Hell? If not confess your sins against God and ask Jesus to forgive you and invite Him into your life to take charge of you and give you a home in Heaven with Him and the Father. Then as you look to Him, He will help you through life’s great storms that we all have to face.

Freedom and Truth

Intro: Tomorrow we celebrate Independence Day. When you look at this nation compared to other nations, what makes America special is our trust in God. “In God we trust” is on our coins. If we ever get away from our trust in God, we will cease to be a free nation.

I. Freedom depends on God. Psalm 33:12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. This nation was founded on Christian principles because The pathway of freedom and blessing lies in cooperating with God. Happy, fortunate and to be envied is the nation that acknowledges Jehovah, the God of Israel as its Lord. Such a nation is blessed because: He is the true God, and is in charge of all the universe. His laws are just and good, and observing them will always tend to promote the public welfare, prosperity and real freedom. The people God has chosen as His own inheritance are those who honor and trust in Him and have received Jesus as their Savior. The founders of our independence called upon God to bless and help them in their efforts to establish a free and independent nation. They knew without His help there could be no true freedom.

II. Truth is necessary for freedom. John 8:32 (NKJV)
32  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Without the truth of God's word, we could not be free. If you don't have the truth of God's word, then you have the lies of Satan and his evil, deception and darkness. Jesus said through Him we will know the truth and the truth will set us free. Jesus said in John 14:6 (NKJV) "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Truth has to have a standard and that standard is Jesus. He is the living word. It doesn't matter what anybody else says about what is the truth. There are not many truths but only one and His name is Jesus. When a person or a society departs from the truth of God's word there will be problems and we see that in America today. There is an effort in this nation by some of the elite, our government and news media to suppress the truth and try to set up another standard based on what man wants. We must never turn from the truth of the bible. We must stand for the truth of the word of God no matter what.

III. Freedom is the duty of the church. John 8:36 (NKJV) Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.                                                                       1. Our duty is to keep spreading the good news about Jesus who is the truth who gives people and our nation freedom. The truth of Jesus binds the hand of Satan the destroyer.                                                                                                 2. We are to live the truth before others. We are to be examples for the world to see. We as Christians can and should influence our society as Jesus tells us to. Matthew 5:13-16 (NKJV) 13  "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14  You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Jesus said We are to be the salt of the earth and light of the world. Salt preserves from corruption and decay. Light drives away darkness and evil.                                                                                            3. We are to pray for the Father's help in keeping this nation free. Moses prayed for the forgiveness of Israel and God spared the nation from His judgment. God said in 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 (NKJV) 13  When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14  if My people who are called by My name will (1) humble themselves, and (2) pray and (3) seek My face, and (4) turn from their wicked ways, (what God will do) then (1) I will hear from heaven, and (2) will forgive their sin and (3) heal their land. God makes the promise that if we do these things His eyes would be open and His ears attentive to our prayers and He would heal our land.

In conclusion there is much we Christians can do to help keep America free and blessed of God. We have God on our side. Let's make use of what God has given us!

Invitation: Personal freedom from the penalty of sin comes by confessing your sins to Jesus and asking Him to forgive you and inviting Him into your life to save you and help you live for Him.

Never Forsaken

Scripture Text

Hebrews 13:5

Intro: God has given us His many great and precious promises. We can live our lives with the comfort and peace of His promises till we go to be with Him in heaven.

Promise one. God will never leave nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) 5  Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."  Don't be known as a lover of money, as one who puts the almighty dollar above almighty God. He may not make you a millionaire, but He will never leave you or forsake you. Isn't it wonderful to have Him say that to you? This passage helps us understand God’s character and nature. He never changes. Believing this can affect and transform the way you and I live every day. It helps us gain a greater confidence in our position as God's children knowing that God will never never leave us or never forsake us. Never means “not at all, “absolutely not.” It doesn't matter who you are, if you have responded in faith to this promise of God, you can know that He will never leave you or forsake you, absolutely not.” You may have friends who would forsake you, and you may have relatives who would forsake you. But the Lord Jesus promised He will never forsake you.

Promise two. God is our very present help. Psalm 46:1-3 (NKJV) 1  God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2  Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3  Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah! In times of trouble you can count on God. Christians fail to trust God in times of trouble because they know nothing about His sufficiency. They don't read His word and have not learned the promises God has made us. We all need a God who does not fail nor forsake us in trouble and who is sufficient in any circumstance. These verses tell us that God is our refuge, strength, and very present help in trouble. Because of this promise we will not fear even in the worst of circumstances or situations. What good would it do to fear and worry? These scriptures are like a hallelujah chorus in which we see the sufficiency of God, the security of God, and the supremacy of God.

Promise three. God will uphold us by His power. Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)10  Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, [don't be struck with fear or dread] for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' This verse has been a real pillar of strength and a source of comfort to God's children of every age. This phrase indicates His sovereignty and strength over all who oppose His people. God has called us to be His people and His servants; we are assured of His presence, His relationship, His help, and His sustaining power. Here is God's gracious invitation to trust Him -- what comfort! God wants to take us into His confidence. He wants to enable us to walk with Him, have fellowship with Him, and know Him intimately. Most people are missing out on the promises of God today! Some people can even get so involved in church work that they miss this close relationship with God and the promise of His word that He will always provide for us whatever we need. God's fellowship, His strength and help, and His all sustaining hand of grace, His salvation, all of these are promised us forever.

Promise four. God will be with us through the worst of circumstances. Isaiah 43:1-2 1  But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, And He who formed you, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you;[saved you from your sins] I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. This verse is not only for Israel but it has a tremendous spiritual application for all of God's children in all times. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." Sometimes in our experiences we get into what is called "deep water" when we can't touch bottom. But we have the assurance that God is going through the experience with us and will deliver us. Sometimes I think I'm going to drown, but God has promised, "the waters shall not overflow you," and He intervenes and delivers me. Because of God's past work in calling us, redeeming, and caring for us, He will continue to protect us and walk with us even through the fiery trials and temptations of life. Therefore in difficult times, pictured as floodwaters and fire, we should not give up and fear, for God has promised He will be with us, protect us and deliver us.

Conclusion: We can live our lives here on earth knowing from God's promises in His word that He will be with us and never forsake us no matter what we have to face. This should give us comfort and peace knowing God can not lie and will fulfill His every promise.

Invitation: God has made a promise that all who confess their sins to Jesus and ask Him for forgiveness will be saved from hell and given a home in heaven. If you have never taken advantage of the salvation Jesus can give you, now is the time and today is the day.

Peace

Scripture Text

 John 14:27

Intro: Everyone is seeking peace in their lives. There are two types of peace according to Jesus. There is the peace that the world offers and there is the peace that Jesus gives.

1. There is the peace of the world. This is a peace of escapism, of avoiding trouble, of refusing to face things, of unreality. The peace of the world depends on circumstances. World peace at its best is temporary. World peace tries to control everyone, and so the peace the world gives always ultimately fails. It never brings real peace. The world’s peace tries to fix the lack of peace but fails to see that the root of the problem is sin itself in our human nature, something that can only be healed by Christ—not by money, regulation, or reform. Without dealing with the symptoms of sin in mankind's nature won't bring peace.

2. There is the peace that Christ brings. John 14:27 (NKJV)  Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The peace Jesus brings is not like the world's peace. The Hebrew word is shalom. It means much more than freedom from conflict. It means experiencing the highest good, enjoying the very best, possessing all the inner good possible. It means wholeness and soundness. It means prosperity in the widest sense, especially prosperity in the spiritual sense of having a soul peace that blossoms and flourishes. There are four types of peace from Christ.

a. First, there's a bosom peace. Romans 5:1  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a peace deep within the soul. It is a calmness of mind, a composure, a peace in our heart that is calm in the face of bad circumstances and situations. It is more than feelings, its more than attitude and thought. It comes from a personal relationship with God the Father.

b. Second, there's the peace of conquest. John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
It is the peace independent of conditions and environment; the peace which no sorrow, no danger, no suffering, no experience can take away. The peace of Jesus Christ—the peace that is
in Him—is lasting. It is an overcoming peace, a peace that overcomes the trials and tribulations of the world, no matter what they are, even the terrible trials of sin and death.

c. Third, there's the peace of assurance. Romans 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. It is the peace of complete confidence; the peace with a sure knowledge that our life is in the hands of God and that as this scripture says all things will work out for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

d. Fourth, there's the peace of intimacy with God. Philippians 4:6-8 (NKJV) 6  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

It is the peace of the highest good. It is the peace that settles the mind, strengthens the will, and establishes the heart. Its a peace that helps us think on the positive good things of God's word.

Conclusion: Are you struggling right now with some situation or circumstance? Are you troubled in your soul? Take this outline home. Read and meditate on these scriptures. It will bring peace in the midst of your storm.

Invitation: If you have never experienced the peace of having your sins forgiven, right now confess your sins to Christ, ask Him to forgive you and invite Him into your life to take charge of you and give you His peace.
