Our Unchanging God

Intro: Hebrews 13:8 says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. And because He is unchanging, He is utterly trustworthy and faithful. Everything else might change this New Year but God will never change. We can count on Him now & forever.
  1. God is unchanging in His holiness. [Isa.6:3] “Holy, Holy, holy is the Lord Almighty. Because He is holy, He is unchanging in His demand for holiness and integrity in His people. 1 Peter 1:14-16 (NLT2) 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” Holy means sanctified, sacred, set apart. We are set apart from the world for God's use. We are to be separate from the world. We do things the opposite of the world's way. We are to live like Christ, being a light to those in the world who don't know Christ.
  1. God is unchanging in His judgment. Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV) 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' a. God is going to judge all people on the earth. No one will get away with anything. This scripture says God will welcome some into His eternal presence and some He will send others to an eternal Hell. Many will say to Him, Lord, Lord, but On judgment day only a person’s relationship with Christ—acceptance of him as Savior and obedience to him—will matter. No work can substitute for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That day of judgment will be the final day of reckoning when God will settle all accounts, judging sin and rewarding faith.
III. God is unchanging in His love. God loves us with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3 (NKJV) The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you.
Romans 5:8-11 (NKJV) 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. We don't have to worry about God changing His mind about how He feels toward us. His love is unchanging toward us!
IV. God's way of salvation has not changed. John 14:6 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Romans 10:5-13 (NKJV) 5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, "The man who does those things shall live by them." 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, " 'Who will descend into the abyss?' " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." The same message of Jesus' sinless life, His sacrificial death, and His victorious resurrection that has saved and transformed lives in the past, still saves & transforms lives today.
Conclusion: As we enter this new year, we can be assured that no matter what changes this year, our Heavenly Father will not. We can depend on Him to be the same. May our devotion to our unchanging God never waver, but only grow stronger each day as we walk with Him.
Invitation: What are you trusting in to get you to Heaven? If it's anything other than Jesus Christ you will never make it. Anyone who trusts in Christ for their salvation will never be disgraced. Jesus is the only way to salvation. Call on Him today confessing your sins and ask Him to forgive your sins and save you for Heaven.
