Psalms 118:22-28 (NLT) 22 The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.
23 This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.
24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Please, Lord, please save us. Please, Lord, please give us success.
26 Bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is God, shining upon us. Take the sacrifice and bind it with cords on the altar.
28 You are my God, and I will praise you! You are my God, and I will exalt you!
We know from scripture that "The Stone" was Jesus Christ. The Jewish religious leaders were the builders who rejected Jesus as the Messiah that God said would come. But He now has become the cornerstone of the church. Through His perfect life His, His sacrificial death and then His resurretion from the dead Jesus became the Savior and Lord of all those who believe. This was God's doing. He had planned it before He created the earth and it is a wonderful thing that God has done in our eyes. He has provided a way for us to be forgiven of our sins and to spend eternity with Him for ever.
This leads us to verse 25. Since all this is true we can look at today, no matter what is going on and we can see that God has made this day for us just as He made a way for our salvation. Because we know from these scriptures God made everything and because we now know that God's will shall prevail no matter what man does, we can rejoice in this day that we are now living and we can be glad in it. In verse 26 Because God has saved us and He has given us success we can say "blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord." We can go to God's house and bless Him there with all the other saints of God. In verse 27 The Lord is shining upon us because of these things that have been mentioned in these verses. We can offer a sacrifice to God. ("The sacrifices we are to offer to God in gratitude for redeeming love, are ourselves; not to be slain upon the altar, but living sacrifices, to be bound to the altar; spiritual sacrifices of prayer and praise, in which our hearts must be engaged".—Matthew Henry Concise)
So in verse 28 we should live in praise of each day saying You o God are my God and I will praise and rejoice in You. You are my God and I will exalt You in my eyes and in the eyes of others. If we would exalt God each day over every circumstance for the reasons listed in these verses we could actually be glad each and every day and rejoice in it no matter what would come our way. Then we could as stated in Psalm 118 verse 29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
I encourage you to take seriously this scripture and apply it to your life. Begin to read God's word and pray every day and watch your attitude and your life change for the good.
A word to those who might not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord. You can never have true joy until you are forgiven of your sins against God. Ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and ask Him to save you from the penalty of those sins and you will be remakably changed instantly if you are sincere in your request. You must be ready for a change in your life that leads to joy unspeakable and full of glory. Amen
